The software stack behind a one-person business
Project management, note-taking, newsletters, and social scheduling — priced and specified for solo operators and small teams rather than enterprise buyers.
The tools here are grouped by the job rather than the vendor, because most people assemble a stack from several of these groups rather than adopting one product for everything. Project and task management covers work you plan and track. Notes and knowledge tools cover what you write down and need to find again. Email and newsletter tools cover reaching an audience you own. Social management covers scheduling and measuring distribution. Creator tools cover producing the assets themselves.
Per-seat pricing is the thing to watch. Much of this category is priced per user per month, which is designed around teams and can be poor value for one person — while a few products in the same groups charge a flat rate regardless of headcount. For solo operators and very small teams the difference compounds quickly, so the per-seat structure is noted on each listing.
Email tools price differently again: nearly all bill by subscriber count, with the tier boundaries and what happens at the ceiling varying between them. A list that grows past a threshold can move you up a tier automatically, so it is worth knowing where the next boundary sits before choosing.
The practical constraint on all of these is what they connect to. A tool that does not reach the rest of your stack becomes a place you copy things into by hand, which is where most abandoned tools end up. Integration lists are on each page for that reason.
